Case Study: Nokia UK HQ

Customer: Mitie Facilities Management
Location: Southwood, Farnborough, Hampshire
Requirements: Installation of 384 wireless network positions.
Equipment: Hellermann Tyton Cat6A, Cisco Aironet AP 1250.

OVERVIEW
To supply and install a wireless network, accessible throughout the site for staff and visitors. The campus consists of 3 separate buildings with 4 floors within each of the units.

THE MISSION
All works had to be carried out on an out of hours basis in order for the staff to carry out their day to day duties. The project also had to be completed on a very tight time schedule of 10 weeks. This was one of the very first Hellermann Tyton Cat6A system implementations in the UK, termination tools provided to us by Hellermann Tyton were of a prototype variety for the project.

With the Hellermann Tyton Cat6A cabling delivering network speeds of up to 10G the system has been installed to withstand the future demands of user needs.

The Cisco Aironet 1250 Access Points, which weighed in at a whopping 2.3kg each, gave us a bit of a problem making sure they didn't ever fall down from the ceilings above. We overcome this problem by designing and building special brackets made from steel tray work in order to support the weight of each the 384 Access Points within the false ceilings. Each of these brackets then had to be fixed to the concrete structure of the building before mounting the Access Points to them.

Two external Aerials were then installed onto the metal ceiling tiles below the ceiling void in order to give full coverage to the users from each Access Point.

CONCLUSION
Even with the additional unexpected project variations the installation was still delivered on time and within budget to the client. The cabling system was supplied with the Hellermann Tyton 25 year product warranty that gives the customer long term peace of mind, both financially and technically, and also offers a great return on their investment.
